The meeting, which was televised, quickly turned confrontational, with Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, criticizing and accusing Zelenskyy of being ungrateful for US aid. The Wall Street Journal described the meeting as a "debacle" that undermines US aims to limit Russian expansionism, warning that abandoning Ukraine to Putin would be catastrophic for the country, Europe, and Trump's own presidency
